Nessa – the “Australian Face” of Bali Street Dogs

I AM GANESSA……

I was born on a Balinese beach in October 2004. Being born with only three legs made it difficult for me to move around in the sand. So when my mother and her other pups moved further up the beach in search of food, I was left behind to survive on scraps from the nearby restaurants.

I managed to survive until I was about 4 weeks old but I was malnourished and dehydrated. Life was very tough. One night an Australian tourist saw me sitting under a restaurant table. She scooped me up and took me to visit her Balinese friends. They took us to visit a vet who made me feel so much better. I stayed with these lovely people whilst my rescuer returned to Australia.

On her return to Australia, she set about organising for me to travel to Australia to be with her. And so my adventure began….

A trip to Denpasar airport saw me farewell Bali and fly to Singapore (as dogs cannot travel directly from Indonesia to Australia). I stayed in a boarding kennel for six months and became a resident of Singapore so I could travel to my new home.

Another plane trip saw me arrive in Sydney in July 2005. After a short stay in quarantine I officially became an Aussie dog!

I now live in Albury, NSW with Jacinta and all her other pets. I share my home with other rescued and unwanted animals that include dogs, cats, horses, guinea pigs, rabbits and fish.

My job now is to make people aware of the plight of all the dogs and cats living on the streets and beaches of Bali.
